This is a site that encourages other people to join us by contributing their own stories. Whenever a new writer contributes to Bits and Beats we ask them to fill out a short questionnaire to give a little background information on the person.
My name is Charlie. I’m a Network Technician and programming student from Long Island, New York with aspirations of working in the video game industry. I also host the Bits and Beats podcast and write for the website whenever I can. I spend whatever spare time I have immersing myself in a video game, blocking out the rest of world with my headphones on, or relaxing while spinning my favorite records.
- If you were stranded on a desert island and could only bring 1 book, 1 full TV series, 1 movie, 1 video game and 1 album, which would you bring? (Assume electricity is available).
- Book: The Great Gatsby
- TV Series: Game of Thrones
- Movie: Gladiator
- Video Game: Destiny
- Album: Peripheral Vision – Turnover
- First video game you remember playing.
- I remember playing Banjo Kazooie on my sisters Nintendo 64, I had to be 6 or 7 years old at the time.
- First album you remember owning.
- The first album I’ve owned is Meteora by Linkin Park. I have no idea how I ended up owning this album but I was in love with it, I would always listen to it in the car with my mom.
- What song would you play if you wanted to fall asleep?
- The song Echo by Balance and Composure would put me to sleep almost instantly for all of freshman year of college, even on the stressful nights it would put me to sleep.
- Which character in the Mario universe do you identify most with?
- I feel like this is going to be a weird answer but I’d say I’m a lot like Toad. He is loyal, supportive, humble, self-aware among other things and I’d like to think I have similar qualities.
- What is your go to feel good song?
- Gum by Moose Blood always seems to put a smile on my face. Even though it’s not a song I can particularly relate to it’s still a song that always makes me happy.
- What is your favorite/most utilized form of escapism?
- Whenever I need escape I will usually play video games. Games are an easy form of escapism, meaning it’s very easy to escape into games. It’s something you need to focus on to play well and it’s a nice time consuming distraction from everything else going on.
- If you had to pick 5 artists for your dream lineup, who would they be?
- Have Mercy, Four Year Strong, Turnover, Foo Fighters, Childish Gambino. If you combine the different genres, ages, and levels of popularity, there’s no reason a lineup like this would ever happen, but a boy can dream.
- You are given the opportunity to meet any 1 person (alive or dead), who would it be?
- My first true passion in my life was baseball and I will always love it. Since I am a Yankee fan, I would love to go back in time and meet Mickey Mantle. He’s one of the greatest players of all time and when I played baseball I HAD to have his number, 7, on my jersey.
- You just pulled an all nighter. What is most likely the reason you stayed up all night?
- On multiple occasions I’ve stayed up over 24 hours playing video games, sometimes unintentionally. It’s so easy to lose track of time when playing a great game, it’s always “one more level” or “one more chapter” until it’s 8am and your whole sleep schedule is now destroyed.
